Gift Aid Explanation
If you are a UK tax payer, you can add “Gift Aid” to your donation and it will not cost you anything if you pay enough income tax and/or capital gains tax to cover the amount of Gift Aid that LAPA (and any other registered UK charity you choose to support with Gift Aid) will reclaim from the HMRC in each tax year.
This is how it works: if you donate £1 and add Gift Aid to it, then, LAPA will receive £1 from you and an extra £0.25 from the HMRC. It does not cost you anything. And it makes a huge difference to us! The Gift Aid system in the UK is designed so that the state can help charities out of the state coffers.
Separately, the state also incentivises UK tax payers to make charitable donations to UK registered charities by offering some tax rebate. This is completely separate from Gift Aid and the two should not be confused. You need to consult your accountant to find out whether you are eligible for tax rebate on your charitable donations.
